Macon County Retired Teachers held their annual Christmas Brunch at the Red Boiling Springs Thomas House on December 13, 2007. President George McCrary presided and called on Michael Welch, pastor of Lafayette United Methodist Church to give the invocation.
Following a delicious brunch, McCrary addressed several items of interest to the group and a number of business matters. Marion Casady was recognized as the 2007 recipient of the Will Hall Sullivan Award. She has decided to give the $1000.00 she received to the Scholarship Fund of the MCRTA.
Several items of business relative to scholarships the retired teachers will present to college bound Macon County graduating seniors and plans for prospective members for the MCRTA were addressed. Carolyn Winn spoke of a trip being planned for the group for April 23, 2008 Linda McCrary spoke to the 3-Star Program of Macon County and noted that Carolyn Whitaker has presented a resolution which addresses the need for a Post Secondary Campus in Macon County, to be in place by 2009.
Good food and fellowship was enjoyed by approximately 20 members. Next meeting will be held in the spring.
