The Good Will Association of Red Boiling Springs sponsored the fourth “Fifth Friday Fish Fry” on November 30 and once again had a tremendous response with over 300 in attendance, the biggest fundraiser to date.
The success of the event is due to the tireless effort of individuals and businesses who volunteer by donating time, talent, or supplies. Robert Stroop, owner of the Donoho Hotel and Entertainment Center originated the idea of the Goodwill Association after he met the father and son team of Scott and Pat Price of Nashville.
The Prices were on a nationwide journey in search of goodwill with a plan to visit all fifty states, randomly select people and ask them about the good things in their lives.
The Prices left a $10.00 bill with each person they interviewed and asked them to do something good. They have followed each person and gathered wonderful stories about how their $10.00 has been used and have chronicled them in their book, Looking for Goodwill .
Robert Stroop chose to use his $10.00 to organize the Goodwill Association of Red Boiling Springs, which raises funds for persons in the community in immediate need of assistance.
The story of their encounter with Mr. Stroop and his wife as they sat on the front porch of The Donoho is good reading for those who know the Stroops, have enjoyed The Donoho, the community of Red Boiling Springs, or just enjoy an interesting book with a positive message.
The letters they have received from the people they interviewed reveal the touching, creative ways that people have used their $10.00 to spread goodwill to others.
Scott and Pat Price were surprise guests at the event on November 30. Both addressed the standing room only crowd to tell about how far reaching some of the original $10.00 goodwill monies have gone to benefit others in some way.
He referred to his understand of the Red Boiling Springs Goodwill Association and the good that is being done through the efforts of the volunteers, citing his knowledge of the people and families that have already been helped in some way. Additional information about this remarkable father and son can be found on their website, Looking for Goodwill.com
Mr. Stroop, after careful deliberation about how to make the $10.00 more productive, chose to invite a few people from the community for ‘brainstorming' sessions for input about developing his idea of the association. “I recall his determination at the first meeting,” recalls Kim Evans. “ He let us know that he would appreciate support for his idea but made his commitment clear by stating that he would proceed alone if he did not have any support at all.
Every person in the room had spent most of their life in Red Boiling Springs and recognized immediately the great need in the community for such a service. The most interesting thing was that Mr. Stroop himself is from Murfreesboro.
It is my opinion that Red Boiling Springs was doubly blessed the day that Scott and Pat Price came to Red Boiling Springs. First that they chose our town, the other is that they happened upon Mr. and Mrs. Stroop as they enjoyed the front porch of the Donoho of their adopted home.”
