Our awards day will be this Saturday, November 17, at the Lafayette Elementary School gymnasium. The 6-8 football & cheerleading division will be at 12:00 and the 9-12 football & cheerleading division will be at 2:00. Any child that finished the year either cheering or playing football will receive a trophy from the league for their hard work and dedication. On a personal note: I am very proud of every football player and cheerleader and each coach in our league this year as we have all represented Macon County exceptionally well throughout each of our bowl games. Our record against all of the outside teams this season is a wonderful 8-3-2. The future of Macon County football is looking extremely bright as there are a lot of great athletes coming to the junior high and high school programs from our league in the near future. I am looking forward to seeing each of these young men and women compete at the next levels and I believe they will be seeing lots of playing time and cheering sections. I want to once again thank each of the teams who came from outside our league to commit to each of the bowls that were held. I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that helped our league as a whole to be so successful and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better year next year! This includes all the coaches for both cheerleading and football, the student helpers, and all the officers and board members that were so supportive this year. I want to thank the Macon County High School head football coach, Daniel Cook, the Macon County Junior High School head football coach, Nathan Wilson, and all of their assistant coaches for supporting our league along with the Macon County High School cheerleading coach, Jada Law, and the Macon County Junior High School cheerleading coach, Monica Wilkerson. This league could not be the success that it is without the support and cooperation from these folks!! I want to thank the radio station for airing the radio game of the week each week during the regular season and John Reese Collins and Jerry Richmond for doing the play-by-play on these games. I want to thank the stadium crew for all their help this year which includes Mchelle Phillips for doing the scoreboard and music for each game; Jeremy Phillips for doing all of the play-by-play announcing; Tucker Smith for helping spot, Caleb Stankard and Jayce Cross for keeping the gate; and a special thanks to wild man Cheesy for setting up the field and cleaning up after the games for us and who also does a lot of extra work when I need him to. Also thanks to Charlie Workman who helps Cheesy with the field. Another special thanks goes to Darrell Robertson who takes care of striping the field off for us to be able to use. I want to thank the Macon County Chronicle and the Macon County Times for running our articles every week, the Macon County Government and the City of Lafayette for allowing us to use the Babe Ruth field for practice and the Macon County Board of Education for allowing us to use the practice fields and the game field for our games. A big thank you also goes to the EPLISON CHI sorority of Macon County for running the concession stand and doing an outstanding job during all of our regular season games and to the MCHS cheerleading squad for running it during our bowl games. There is so many people and businesses to thank that I am sure that someone has been left out. Please take this as our thanks to everyone that has helped in any way during this past year for each and every child that is a part of our league.
Also, the Junior Pro basketball League sign-ups will be held on Wednesday December 5 from 6 until 9 PM at Central Elementary School. This will be the only sign-up date for this league.
