“The contractor says he will have to wait another three weeks before the new asphalt runway ‘cures' to do the striping, but they are scheduled to be completely done with the project by November 11,” said Wells.
The runway extension will allow all but the largest of corporate jets to land at the local airport. Construction began in June of this year, and planes were landing and taking off from the new section this past week.
The project was funded with a 90% Federal Aeronautics grant with the city paying for 10 percent of the $2,588,018 construction project.
More aerial photos of the new runway will be taken and published in the paper when the final striping and lighting segments of the project are completed.
