The “$5 All You Can Eat” Fifth Friday Fish Fry event was organized earlier this year as a fundraiser to help people in need, who live in and around Red Boiling Springs, According to Kim Evans one of the event organizers.
‘Hannah Smith and South Bound', bluegrass band, opened the evening's entertainment followed by the ‘DoReMe', gospel singers, and ‘Final Atonement', a Christian rock band.
“All the food is donated; Mr. Stroop provides the Donoho Hotel entertainment hall free of charge, and the musicians all volunteer, “ Evans explained, adding that Donoho Hotel owner Robert Stroop was the group's founder.
“We called it the Fifth Friday Fish Fry, [held on the fifth Friday of every month that has one] so the date should always be easy to remember,” Evans added, as she up more tables and chairs to accommodate Friday's turn-out, numbering at least 300.
An eight member ‘Goodwill Committee' selects the recipient(s) of the proceeds from each event, from the applications for assistance that have been submitted to the group. Applications are available at the Palace Care and Rehab, in Red Boiling Springs.
Preliminary reports reflect about 300 attendees and proceeds just shy of $1,500 from Friday's fish fry, according to Kim Evans.
The next Fifth Friday Fish Fry is scheduled for November 30.
