According to THP Trooper Tracey Donoho's official Traffic Crash Report, Bair's 1996 GMC Jimmy was traveling north on the Carter Branch Road when the vehicle went off the east edge of the roadway while negotiating out of a curve. The GMC went approximately 124 feet before striking a tree head-on, then spun around coming to a rest in a field.
Rescue Squad. law enforcement and EMS personnel were paged out to the scene of the wreck shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.
Bair is reported to have died at the scene of the accident, which happened at about 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, September 1. Macon County Rescue Squad members had to remove the driver's door of the wrecked truck in order to extricate the young victim of the crash.
Funeral services for young Bair were held on Monday, September 3. For complete obituary information see Section C, page 4 in this week's paper.
Bair's death was one of nine traffic fatalities recorded in the state over the long Labor Day Holiday weekend. Tpr. Donoho was assisted in his accident investigation by Macon County Sheriff's deputies Warner, Petty and Smith and Ferguson.
A Bethpage woman died in a separate incident which also occurred on Saturday, September 1 in nearby Trousdale County.
THP Trooper Neil Ferguson investigated the fatal wreck, which occurred 0.1 mile west of US Hwy 231 on Hwy. 25 near Payne's Store.
Lillie May Brown Douglas Mullins, 67, Bethpage was killed in the crash. Also transported from the 8:45 a.m. wreck were the driver of a second vehicle, Molly Rebecca Beasley, 30, Hartsville, who was sent by Air Evac to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. Two passengers in the Mullins vehicle, Mr. Paul Brinkley of Hendersonville, and Lucy Elliot of Jacksonville, FL were transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center by the Trousdale County EMS.
Two of the nine traffic fatalities recorded in Tennessee over the three day Labor Day Weekend occurred in Macon and Trousdale Counties.
