MCJH Tigers Fall to Springfield
The MCJHS Tigers traveled to Springfield Tuesday, August 21 to take on the Yellow Jackets, losing the game 24 - 6.
The final score did not reflect how well the Tigers actually did on offence, but the Springfield Yellow Jackets entered the game with full force gaining momentum with two touchdowns for 152 yards in the first half.
Springfield was one of the better teams on the Tigers schedule.
“Playing a team of this calibur is a good indication of how good your football team can be,” announcer Tim Case commented.
The Tigers had some success offensively by Quarterback Dallas Grace scoring a touchdown. But, the Tigers gave up three big plays defensively; Springfield ran three touchdowns against the Tigers: 58 yards, 94 yards, and 41 yards.
In the second half of the game, with 2:43 left in the game, the referees called an official time out and came on to the side line to talk with MCJHS Head Coach Nathan Wilson.
A Macon County football player, Andrew Kemp, was down.
Emergency personell rushed on to the field along with school officials and law enforcement, and started applying ice from a GatorAide cooler.
Kemp had taken a hit to his hip while playing on offence and was lying on the ground motionless from severe pain.
Robertson County EMS ambulance transported Andrew Kemp to the local hospital for examination and observation.
The football game resumed following a prayer passed up for their injured team mate.
With 2:15 left on the clock, the Springfield Quarterback got the ball and went down on one knee in attempt to run the clock down.
“It seemed like that move was good for both teams as the adrenaline had left after the injury,” announcer Case explained as the time ran out on the clock.
The Tigers evened their season 1 - 1.
The MCJHS Tigers will play their next game (HOMECOMING around 6:40 p.m.) Tuesday, August 28 at home against the Eagles of Westmoreland.
