UCHRA commodities distribution June 22

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for Macon County on Friday, June 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the UCHRA Office located at 607 Highway 52 By-Pass in Lafayette and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City Hall in Red Boiling Springs.

Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. Persons may receive commodities for a total of three (3) households if valid cards are presented at the distribution. The U.S.D.A.'s Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program is available to all eligible recipients regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.

2nd Annual Miss 4th of July

Attention: Anyone who attended Macon County High School in the 30's, 40's or 50's

Macon County High School will be shredding all of the old records form the above decades. If you would like to have your high school records, you will need to come by the school during regular school hours. All records will be shredded after July 15, 2007. You must bring photo identification. If you have a family member who attended Macon County High School during those decades and you would like their records, please call 666-4474 for further instructions.

Vacation Bible School at New Zion General Baptist Church

Bobby Driver Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser June 23

Fundraiser will be held from 6 - 10 p.m. at Barren County High School Auditorium, 507 Trojan Trail, Glasgow, KY. Admission is $5 adults, children 5 and under $2.50. Temple Trio, Oak Forest Boys, Pride and Joy, Longcreek Bluegrass, Steel Country, Robbie Jones and Kentucky Gentleman are bands. Concessions available. All proceeds go to Bobby Driver Memorial Scholarship Fund.

No Barnfield Picnic

Billy Barnfield will not be hosting a 4th of July picnic this year. He's enjoyed having it the past 23 years and wishes everyone a great Independence Day this year.

Donate blood June 25

The American Red Cross requests that vacationers not take a break from giving blood because every two seconds someone needs blood, even during the summer months. You can donate blood and save up to three lives on June 25 at Lafayette Church of Christ located at 212 Church Street in Lafayette. Drive hours are noon until 6:00 p.m. All participants will receive a gift from the Red Cross. Fireworks show in Hermitage Springs

Fireworks show will be held in Hermitage Springs Park Saturday, June 30. Barbeque at 11:00 a.m. A beauty pagent will be held (for info on pageant call 615-699-3671); live music by Supernovacain and fireworks will be at dark.

Lost River Cave Big Band to perform June 24

Lost River Cave Big Band will perform at Key Park on Sunday, June 24th beginning at 3:00, sponsored by the Macon County Arts Council.

Joines Family Reunion

Joines Family Reunion will be held at City Park, Sunday, June 24, at noon. Everybody welcome, bring a covered dish.

Beach Spectacular at Westside

Carnahan reunion to be held on July 7, 2007

Our Carnahan reunion this year will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Key Park, Lafayette, Macon County, TN. This is located on Church Street, one block West of the Court House. All friends and relatives of the Carnahans are invited. Notice the date, which is 07/07/07, which I believe is a lucky number. Come early and socialize as announcements start about noon and we plan on eating about 12:30 p.m. Bring my favorite dish again for lunch, all your old photos to share, and notes of happenings within your families. For those that might be interested, we will have a few copies of Carnahan Genealogies, Volume II, which includes our Jackson County Carnahans and also the line of Andrew Carnahan. Singing at Hope Missionary Baptist Mission

Birdwell Reunion June 30

The annual Birdwell Reunion will be June 30, 2007. The descendants of Alexander and Bernetta Spears Birdwell will hold their reunion at Old Mulkey State Park near Tompkinsville, KY. Barbecue meats, drinks, breads, and paper items will be furnished. Please come and bring a covered dish(es) and enjoy the fellowship. Eating will start around 12:00 p.m.

Mowing at Whitley Cemetery

We are asking anyone with flowers or other memorials on graves at Whitley Cemetery to please remove them as we need to mow.

Singing at Miles Town Church of Christ

Clay County Sunday Singing will be at Miles Town Church of Christ on Bakerton Road on July 1st at 2 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Mowing at Underwood Cemetery

All ground ornaments and flowers need to be removed from the ground of Underwood Cemetery by June 26, 2007. Mowing of the cemetery will resume the week of June 27th. If flowers have not been removed, they will be bagged and disposed of by the mowers. If you have any questions please feel free to call 666-5864.

Owen Family Reunion June 30

The Owen family reunion is going to be in the Palace Park in RBS June 30, 2007. We will have our covered dish lunch at 12 noon.

Potter to demonstrate at MCAC meeting

Macon County Arts Council will hold a general meeting on Tuesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be at the Anderson Community Room on Hwy. 52, next to Phillip Anderson Funeral Home. Guest speaker will be local potter Tad Crisp. Tad will demonstrate a method to make pottery that you can “do at home.” Everyone is invited.

Swimming Lessons to be given at City Pool

Swimming lessons will be given at the Lafayette Swimming Pool from 11:00-12:00 each day. Price is $3.00 each lesson. Ages 5-7 will be June 18-22, ages 8-10 will be June 25-29, ages 11 and up will be July 2-6. No need to sign up prior to attending classes.

Junior High Cross Country Meeting June 21

There will be a meeting for any Macon County Junior High students in grades 6-8 concerning fall 2007 Cross Country. The meeting will be held on Thursday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the MCHS cafeteria.

Art Show at Senior Center June 28th-29th

The Macon County Senior Citizens Center is having an Art Show on Thursday, June 28th and Friday, June 29th at the Senior Center. The show is free and open to the public. Please come by and view beautiful pieces of art painted by our local Seniors. For more information, call 666-3780.

Macon County Board of Education to meet

The Macon County Board of Education will meet in session on June 28, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Office. The Internet Usage Policy which includes a Technology Protection Measure and an Internet Safety Policy for the Macon County School System will be reviewed at the meeting.

Fair Board taking bids on main concession
