The 25th annual session of the Cumberland Valley School of Gospel Music, Inc., will be held June 18 - June 29, 2007, at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. Students are offered a choice of day and/or night classes and may stay on campus if they wish. UCHRA commodities distribution June 22
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for Macon County on Friday, June 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the UCHRA Office located at 607 Highway 52 By-Pass in Lafayette and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City Hall in Red Boiling Springs.
Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. Persons may receive commodities for a total of three (3) households if valid cards are presented at the distribution. The U.S.D.A.'s Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program is available to all eligible recipients regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.
Fried Pie Contest Saturday, June 16
The Lafayette Lioness and Lions Club are sponsoring Hillbilly Days June 14, 15 & 16 at Key Park in Lafayette. The Fried Pie Contest will be held Saturday, June 16, at 1:00 p.m. at the back pavilion of Key Park. Entries will be accepted from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 p.m. Categories are fried apple pie and fried variety pie. Two (2) pieces have to be entered in each category you enter. Aging Services for the Upper Cumberland, Inc. is looking for people who are empathic, diplomatic, and skilled communicators to be volunteer Ombudsmen. As a volunteer ombudsman, you will be assigned to a specific long-term care facility, working to ensure that the residents are being protected. You will help residents with problems they are unable to resolve alone. Volunteer ombudsmen dedicate 3 hours per week to this job. Ongoing training and support are provided. This could be the most challenging and rewarding volunteer opportunity you may ever have.
