Bright sunshine and balmy breezes combined to make a perfect day for the first annual Jonathan Hudson Memorial Scholarship Bike Ride Saturday, May 19.
More than a hundred people turned out for the activities, and about thirty riders participated in the event that raised more than $3,000 for the Jonathan Hudson Memorial Scholarship fund, according to Derrick Dickens, organizer of the bike ride.
Riders left Macon County Junior High School and traveled to Dale Hollow Lake, where a moment of silence was held in memory of Jonathan Hudson, 2006 MCHS senior killed in a boating accident at Dale Hollow last year.
Riders returned to the school to enjoy music, food, and an auction to raise money for the scholarship fund.
Spencer Young participated in the scholarship fundraiser, riding the bike that formerly belonged to his friend Jonathan Hudson. The bike is now decorated with airbrush painted designs in memory of Hudson who wore the, now retired, number 41 when he played football for MCHS.
T-shirts commemorating the 2007 Jonathan Hudson Memorial Scholarship Bike Ride are still available for $10, by contacting Derrick Dickens at 633-7994 or Donna Young at 644-3363 or 655-2540.
“We're pleased with the turnout; and it'll just keep getting bigger, I think,” Derrick Dickens said.
