A juvenile passenger in Main's car was also treated for injuries.
Main, driving a red 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, pulled out of the Smoke Shop drive-through lane and was attempting to cross Scottsville Rd. onto Galen Rd. when she traveled into the path of a southbound white 2001 Honda driven by Jessica Allison, 19, of Brattontown Circle, Lafayette, LPD Officer J.J. Ruiz reported.
Although rain began falling shortly after the wreck, Thursday's intermittent showers were not identified as a contributing cause of the accident. The road was dry and visibility was good at the time of the collision, according Officer Ruiz.
Main's Cavalier sustained severe damage to the driver's side and the Honda driven by Allison sustained severe damage to the front end when the honda and the Chevrolet collided at an angle. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The airbag in Allison's vehicle deployed and reports indicate neither vehicle was traveling in excess of 25 miles per hour.
Sherry Main was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
