A sixteen year old driver was shaken, but not critically injured, and the small white car she was driving sustained extensive damage to the front end, from a collision with a Peterbilt log truck, on the Galen Road Thursday January, 18.
The car appeared to be starting to turn off Frog Pond Cemetery Rd. onto Galen Rd., and the Peterbilt truck was traveling east on the Galen Road, according to witnesses on the scene.
After impact with the car, the truck traveled across the yards of two Galen Road residences, before crashing into a riding lawnmower, in the yard on the far side of the second house, according to eye witnesses.
"I just looked out and saw that truck flying across my front yard and didn't know what was going on," said Deborah Johnston, who lives in the home on the corner of Galen and Frog Pond, the first yard crossed by the truck.
Nikki Cherry was parked in the church parking lot, across the street from the accident scene, waiting for the school bus with her kids onboard to arrive, when she witnessed the wreck.
"I ran over to her, and used her cell phone to call for help. Both her air bags worked, and she was upset about the car, and she said her arm hurt," Cherry said, describing the first moments following the wreck.
EMS transported the drivers of both vehicles to Macon County General Hospital for treatment of injuries.
