If you went out of town and fought the big city traffic on the traditional first shopping days after Thanksgiving last week, then perhaps you're ready for a "Market Day" experience Saturday this week with local merchants providing the ease, convenience and economy of shopping closer to home.
No 90-percent full to capacity huge mall parking lots, no mobs or lines or traffic jambs. Just friendly local faces, attractive merchandise and a variety of merchants large and small offering to save you gas money in addition to saving your Holiday Season sense of humor for the long haul until Christmas morning, 2006!
The best ever Lafayette Christmas Parade is set for this Saturday, December 2, at 5:30 p.m. and with the agreement of many Macon Countians one of our best ever citizen-statesmen, Doyle Gaines, has been selected as Grand Marshal to lead the 2006 Parade.
The Hon. Doyle Gaines served as county Superintendent of Education for sixteen years, 1964-80, and as county Judge-Executive (now county mayor) for twelve years, 1990-2002. In the interim years, Doyle Gaines served in several important capacities with the State Department of Education, including assistant commissioner and executive director of the states Special Schools, which included schools for the deaf and blind.
Cool and clear weather is in the forecast, so bundle up and stay in town this Saturday afternoon for a pleasant shopping experience and entertaining community Christmas Parade.
Just a reminder for parade entries: to be eligible for judging, they must be in line by 3:00 p.m. If an entry is not in line by 3 p.m., it will not be judged. All other entries must be in place by 4:30.
The same parade rules are in effect this year, as in the past.
