There's no doubt about it; gardening is a popular hobby, shared by many Golden Oaks Village residents. Beds of seasonal flowers and hearty perennials flank doorsteps and rival each other in beauty and creative arrangement.
Juanita White is the happy lady, with the green thumb and the cheery disposition, who is responsible for the most eye-catching door-step garden in the complex.
Juanita's meticulously maintained fall garden overflows with nature's vibrant colors, but cheery little pumpkins, ghosts, and goblins, and a big fall wreath on the door, add a festive seasonal touch of whimsy and welcome that reflects the happy lady's personality.
Macon County Times readers will recognize Juanita's name from her by-line, as the correspondent who writes the “Golden Oaks Village News”.
In the column, Juanita enthusiastically tells about her neighbors' gardens, their family visits, vacations, birthdays, illnesses and recuperation, as well as the routine activities and special events held at Golden Oaks. Other than the occasional reference to her visitors, we don't learn much about Juanita through her column.
“We're so lucky to have Connie Gann here, as the manager," Juanita enthused. She's young, but she knows just what we want and need!"
Juanita's positive outlook is not the result of a problem free life, by any stretch of the imagination. She moved to Golden Oaks after losing her husband. Parents are not supposed to outlive their children, but Juanita lost her son. In recent years, she has also lost friends, and a favorite hairdresser.
Juanita has her share of aches and pains, like everybody else who has stepped across the threshold of the ‘golden years' and earned senior citizen status, but she doesn't let mother nature dampen her enthusiasm for life.
Juanita's happiness is a state of mind, and a reflection of her personal choice to enjoy life's simple pleasures and live every day to the fullest.
"I just love it here at Golden Oaks,” Juanita said, with a big smile.
It shows Juanita!
