Flu season is just around the corner and many physicians in Macon County are receiving their shipment of shots and scheduling dates for flu clinics.

Influenza, also called the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each fall.

As of October 10, Macon County General Hospital has received a supply of flu vaccine for their employees.

They are still awaiting further shipments and have been reassured that there is not a shortage of the vaccine this year. They have not scheduled any flu clinics at this time but as soon as they receive the vaccine they will schedule clinics for the public.

The Family Care Center has scheduled two clinics for October 19th and October 24th from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. At this time they are restricting the vaccines to their patients only, according to Teresa Green.

Lisa York of Alpha Medical Associates stated that their office has not received any flu vaccines. They are asking patients to keep calling for dates and times of future clinics.

Primary Health Care also does not have the vaccine. They had a tentative clinic date set for November 15, but this is subject to change if they have still not received the vaccine, said Tammy Nichols.

The Lafayette Children's Clinic has two flu clinics scheduled but both dates are filled. They have not received any more vaccine at this time. Crystal Brooks urges parents who have not made an appointment to call the office for further information.

Rite Aid, Walgreens, and Walmart also have clinics scheduled.

Rite-Aid will hold their clinic Friday, October 13, from 12 noon until 6 p.m.

Pharmacist Jimmy Glover said that the charge is $25. If you are a Medicare Part B card holder, there is no charge. Card holders must present their card.

This fee applies at all local pharmacies.

Walgreens, according to Kim Knight, will have their clinic Monday, October 16, from 9 to 12.

Walmart pharmacist Keith Chitwood said their clinic is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All offices urge patients to call their primary physician for more details.
