The Macon County Sheriff's Department, Lafayette Police Department, and the 15th Judicial District Drug Task Force conducted a joint investigation that resulted in a drug arrest.

Shawn Davis Smith, 24, was arrested on September 30, at 8:00 p.m., when a search warrant was executed at 702 Oak St., Lafayette.

Seven ounces of marijuana were found during the search of the Oak Street residence. Law enforcement officials also found a camera on the front porch that was interfaced with computers and apparently being used for surveillance. An early nineties Ford Explorer, allegedly used for transporting marijuana, was also found. All items were seized during the arrest last month, according to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons.

“I am pleased with how all the departments are now working together. With all the departments sharing information, we'll be able to fight more of the drug and crime problems,” Sheriff Gammons said.

In another example of cooperation among law enforcement agencies, the Macon County Sheriff's Department recently assisted Bowling Green, Kentucky police detectives apprehend three Lafayette residents identified as suspects in a Bowling Green mall robbery.

Terrell Kerstner was held on a fugitive from justice charge, on October 3. Later that day, Kerstner, his brother Justun Kerstner, and Allison Kenna were turned over to Bowling Green, Kentucky law enforcement, after being identified as suspects in a Bowling Green mall robbery.

Bowling Green, Kentucky Detectives Melinda Powell and Mike Lemmon brought a Tennessee license tag number and vehicle description to the Macon County Sheriff's Department, and asked for assistance apprehending suspects in a September 30 robbery at the Greenwood Mall, in Bowling Green, according to Sheriff Mark Gammons.

After running the tag number, MCSD deputies accompanied the Kentucky detectives to a mobile home located at 349 Hickory Lane in Lafayette, Sheriff Gammons reports.

“When we arrived, a female took off to the front of the mobile home and a male took off running to the back of the home,” Sheriff Gammons said.

“After about thirty minutes, an individual came out the rear door of the residence. He was detained and taken to the Sheriff's office for questioning,” the Sheriff continued.

A search of the residence produced weapons allegedly used in the Greenwood Mall robbery. After a few hours of further investigation, all three suspects were transported to Bowling Green for booking, According to Sheriff Gammons.
