Michael D. McLeary and David L. Krantz, both of Lafayette, were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of injuries received in a two vehicle crash on KY 87, five miles west of Fountain Run, in Monroe County Kentucky. The accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, according to Kentucky State Police.

Michael D. McLeary, 45, of Lafayette was reported to be the driver of a 1990 GMC pick-up, traveling west on KY 87, that crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 1994 Chevrolet pick-up reported to be driven by Joel E. Brown, 55, also of Lafayette.

The two trucks collided, when Brown's truck swerved to avoid hitting McLeary's vehicle, according to Kentucky Trooper M. Dubre.

Brown was treated at the scene for minor injuries, by Monroe County EMS, but David L, Krantz, a passenger in Brown's truck, was airlifted to Vanderbilt. No seat belts were in use in either vehicle, according to Dwaine Barnett, Public Affairs Officer with the Kentucky State Police.

DAVID KRANTZ WAS REPORTED to be in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Monday of this week. Relatives told the Times that Krantz had been taken off a respirator and was alert and talking to visitors.

A public appeal has been launched to help the Krantz family with expenses. His condition remains critical and it is reported that he will require extensive physical therapy during the long recovery from his injuries. In addition, Krantz and his wife are expecting the birth of twins next Spring. To make donations or to offer other assistance to the Krantz family you may call 666-7453 or 666-5239.
