Troy Hewitt, 41, of the Green Valley community was shot once in the abdomen with a 357 Magnum Ruger handgun, at around 8 o'clock Saturday evening July 29, 2006.

The shooting reportedly took place outside a Green Valley Rd. residence Hewitt's brother Arlis Hewitt Jr. shared with Lenore McMurtry. When Deputies responded to the call, Hewitt was lying in the road.

A helicopter landing area was set up at Green Valley Road for the victim to be airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to Steve Jones of the Macon County EMS.

The shooting is believed to be connected with a domestic dispute involving Arlis Hewitt Jr. that happened earlier in the day on Saturday.

McMurtry alleges Arlis Hewitt Jr. entered the residence and began hitting her with a motorcycle chain while she was sleeping. McMurtry also wrote in... her affidavit that Hewitt beat her with his fist on her head, neck, and face. She took out a warrant Saturday, after receiving treatment for injuries.

Arlis Hewitt Jr., who reportedly could not be located by deputies on Saturday evening, was arrested on Sunday, July 30 and charged with aggravated assault as the result of the domestic dispute reported earlier on the day of the shooting.

“The alleged shooter was still on the scene, but no arrest has been made yet. We are still investigating and collecting evidence, with the TBI assisting,” Macon County Sheriff Joe Ferguson explained.

The name of the shooting suspect has not been released, but the Sheriff reports that the gun is in the possession of the TBI.
