“Robert has been like a brother to me and he will be dearly missed,” said Lafayette Fire Chief Keith Scruggs.

Robert Hodges, Lafayette Fire Department Assistant Chief, retired from his position last Friday after working with the city for over 29 years. Robert worked with the volunteer fire department for over 40 years and served as their assistant fire chief for 15 years. He has served the city of Lafayette as the Assistant Chief for five years.

Hodges was also on the Airport Commission, appointed by the mayor, to help with the needs of the airport.

“While I only worked with Robert for a few short years, his services were invaluable,” said Mayor Bill Wells. “Robert has extensive knowledge of the airport and airplanes. At one time, he had a pilot license. All of his knowledge will be greatly missed when any situation concerning the airport is discussed.”

In the 80's Robert served as the emergency management director. He is one of the most trained firefighters in the department and also has had extensive training in hazardous materials.

“He was a great help to me,” said the mayor. “He served the fire department and the city of Lafayette well and he will be missed.”

All employees of the city wish Robert well on his retirement.
