Mrs. Willie Mai Woodard, age 77, of the Funns Branch Community in Jackson County died at 8:39 p.m. Monday evening July 10, 2006 at Carthage General Hospital after suffering an apparent brain aneurysm at her Funns Branch Road home earlier that day.

Services for Mrs. Woodard were conducted by Brother Jeff Burton and Brother Steve Waller on Thursday afternoon from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 1 p.m. services burial was in the Sircy Cemetery in Brooks Bend with Eld. Charles Allen Gentry officiating.

Born in the Reece Hollow in the Buffalo Community on May 7, 1929, she was one of five children of the late Waymon Carl Givens and Minnie Ethel Givens.

Her husband, Willie Bates “Wicker” Woodard, preceded her in death. Three sisters preceded her in death, Anna Ruth Givens on May 8, 1996, Margaret Givens on June 23, 2005 and Gladys Givens on September 16, 2005.

Mrs. Woodard attended Ensor's Chapel United Methodist Church on Funns Branch. With over forty years service, she retired from the former Carthage Shirt Corporation where she began employment in 1953.

Surviving is a daughter, Dorris Reese and husband James of Clarksville; brother, Marvin Givens of Highland; two grandchildren, Tammie Jones and husband Bobby of Springfield, Richard Huffines and wife Tracy of Whitehouse; four great-grandchildrem, Kaleb, Ashton, and Faith Huffines, Lena Jones.
