Shawn Carter has been promoted to the Central Office at the Macon County Board of Education as the new Supervisor of Instruction.

Carter, a graduate of Macon County High School, taught at MCHS for seven years before going to Red Boiling Springs Elementary School as the principal for grades K-6. He remained at RBS for five years before becoming principal at Macon County High School for the 2005-2006 school year.

On June 26th, Director of... Schools Mike Prock announced that Carter had been hired to fill the position of Supervisor of Instruction. Carter will assume his duties next week.

Debbie Prock, who will vacate the position when she retires in a few months, will work closely with Carter training him for the position.

“He was chosen due to his many years of experience as a teacher, as principal of an elementary school and then as a principal of a high school,” said Prock. “His background of teaching and also of the leadership at a lower grade level school and a higher grade level school is what led me to hire him.”

Prock said that Carter will wear many hats in his new job. He will be over all regular education teachers, the county wide curriculum, in service training, and staff developments. He will work closely with the text book committee in choosing new text books for the schools and will coordinate the county wide spelling bee and county wide essay. Carter will also help keep the Safe and Drug Free Schools program going strong.

Shawn Carter said that he was very excited, nervous and honored to fill the position.

“I very much enjoyed working at Red Boiling Springs,” said Carter. I loved teaching at Macon County High and then returning as the principal last year. I am sorry that I was only able to be at the school for one year. Jobs like this don't come along often, so when one did, I knew that it was an opportunity I could not afford to pass. I am very excited about it and hope I do a good job.”

As of press time Tuesday, no one had filled the position of principal at Macon County High.
