NEW LAFAYETTE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TAKE OATH OF OFFICE
Ruby Flowers, Ronnie Krantz and Jerry Wilburn were sworn-in as Lafayette City Council members Thursday morning, May 25th at 10 a.m. at the Will T. Colter City Hall building on East Locust Street. Attending the ceremony were members of the public and family members of the newly elected city legislators. The trio were the three top vote getter's among six candidates running in the May 2nd city election.
After the brief ceremony, with the oath of office administrated by City Recorder Annette Morgan, Mayor Bill Wells invited the public "to meet their new council members if they don't know them already...and begin to make complaints!" The good humored invitation was followed by a reception buffet of cookies, lemonade and coffee.
The new council members are beginning four-year terms, and join three incumbent council members: Loryn Atwell; Tim Morgan; and Jerry Wix. These three sitting council members have two years remaining in their four-year terms.
Ms. Flowers was re-elected to her council seat, while Krantz, a retired city police lieutenant, and Jerry Wilburn, a Tri-County Electric employee, are serving their first terms in city government. Ms. Flowers was city recorder for many years previous to her retirement and subsequent election to the council.
The next regular meeting of the Lafayette city council is set for Tuesday evening, June 6th at 7 p.m. The meeting will be preceded at 6:45 by a brief public hearing concerning annexation of a section of land on the Galen Road.
