Vester “Clay” Kirby, age 79, of Lafayette passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral Services for Clay Kirby were conducted on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Jerry Mercer officiating. Kenneth Swan, Jason Draper, Jarrad Draper, Barry Kirby, Lonnie Stubblefield, Ricky Sneed, Dusty Stubblefield, Tony Jenkins, Randy Carter, Charlie Kirby and Jerry Sewell served as Active Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.

Clay Kirby was born December 8, 1926 in Jackson County, the son of the late Marshall and Melvina Russell Kirby. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dee, Bee, Zollie and Seal Kirby, sisters, Moline Ellis and Fannie Kirby. On September 9, 1947 he married Evelyn Wilkerson Kirby. He was a retired logger and farmer. He had been a member of Lafayette Church of Christ since 1947.

He is survived by, wife, Evelyn Wilkerson Kirby of Lafayette; sons, Michael (Hilda) Kirby of Old Hickory, Randy (Deborah) Kirby of Lafayette; brother, Bradley Kirby of Lafayette; sisters, Velma Stubblefield and Betty Lou Sneed both of Lafayette, Robbie Ellis of Whiteland, Ind., Juwidna Young of Franklin, Ind.; grandchildren, Joshua Clay Kirby of Murfreesboro, Meagan Kirby of Lafayette.
