Jamie Woodard and Alan Sullivan, both of Lafayette, and Deana Scott, of Westmoreland all suffered serious injuries when the 1991 GMC Jimmy they were in, driven by Woodard, slammed head on into a tree and embankment off the Trammel Creek Road in western Macon County.
The vehicle, traveling north on Trammel Creek Road, was being pursued by Westmoreland Officers Jimmy Jones and Benny Hudgens, when Woodard, 35, failed to negotiate a curve after crossing a narrow wooden bridge.
Woodard, 35, and Dean, 25, were both transported to Sumner Regional Hospital. Deana Scott, 34, was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center. None of them were wearing seat belts.
Officers reported numerous empty beer cans and bottles in the vehicle. THP Sgt. William Avera charged Woodard with DUI, 7th; aggravated assault; reckless driving; revoked license; insurance violation; seat belt law violation; open container violation; and registration violation. He was also charged by Westmoreland police with driving on revoked, 3rd; felony evading arrest; and felony DUI, 8th.
Sgt. Avera was assisted by MCSD Deputy Troy Griggs, Westmoreland Officers Jimmy Jones and Bennie Hudgens, and Sumner County EMS.
