Mrs. Olean Russell, of the Russell Hill Community, died at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning, May 13, 2006 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since April 27th. She was 88.

The 1:00 p.m. Monday services were conducted from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and burial followed in the Robinson Family Cemetery on the Russell Family farm at Russell Hill. Jack Honeycutt and her minister, Denton Ramsey officiated.

Born Daisy Olean Carter on September 28, 1917, she was one of seven children reared in the Cartwright Community by the late Jasper Floyd “Jap” and Calthia Lillian “Kate” Carver. Her husband of forty eight years, Marshall Garfield Russell, former Macon County Road Supervisor, preceded her in death on June 18, 1979. Her son-in-law, Junior Woodard died on November 27, 1979. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Opal Hesson of Russell Hill, Pauline Givens of Cartwright and Lena Pearl Smith of Pleasant Shade.

Mrs. Russell, a homemaker, was a member of the Willette Church of Christ.

Surviving is her daughter, Shelby Jean Woodard; grandson, Joey Woodard, both of Russell Hill; step-great-grandsons, Ashley Newberry of Red Boiling Springs, Reagan Newberry of Russell Hill; sister, Nell Givens of South Carthage; two brothers, Roy Carver of Carthage and Robert Carver of Nashville.

The Russell family has requested memorials to the Willette Church of Christ Building Fund.
