A fun day was enjoyed with families of Williams Head Start students at their Open House held on October Thrusday, October 13.

Parents experienced new and engaging activities their pre-schoolers will be participating in while enrolled at Williams Head Start. All parents were invited to the open house with several guest in attendance that make Head Start Programs possible and successful.

The Williams Head Start Center has an enrollment of 76 children ages 3-5. They are housed in four classrooms. The program serves the child development needs of preschool children (birth through age five) and their low-income families.

Beginning with a task force recommendation in 1964 for the development of a federally sponsored preschool program to meet the needs of disadvantaged children, Head Start has grown throughout the years.

Some of the activities Williams Head Start will be involed in this year include Red Ribbon Week, Fire Safety, and preparing children to enter kindergarten.

Shannon Brawner is in her first year as program director at the Williams center and she plans to keep parent involved and children happy.
