Miss Gladys Givens, 70, of the Highland Community in Jackson County, died Friday morning, September 16, 2005 at the Smith County Health Care Center in Carthage of cancer.

Services were conducted from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon by Eld. Charles Allen Gentry and Eld. Donald Taylor. Following the 1:00 p.m. services, burial was in the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

Born in the Elmwood Community of Smith County on April 16, 1935, she was one of five children of the late Waymon Car and Minnie Ethel Givens.

Two sisters preceded her in death. They were Anna Ruth Givens on May 8, 1996 and Margaret Givens on June 23, 2005. Miss Givens was a member of the class of 1953 of Smith County High School. She was employed at the former Carthage Shirt Corporation for over thirty years before her retirement. She was a Baptist.

Surviving are a sister, Willie Mai Woodard of the Funns Branch Community; brother, Marvin Givens of Highland; niece, Dorris Reese of Clarksville; great-niece, Tammie Jones of Springfield; great-nephew, Richard Huffines of White House.
