A 55-year-old man died over the weekend from injuries he received in an apartment fire at Spring Tree Villa in Red Boiling Springs.

According to a report from Chief Terry Tuck, RBS Police Department, the fire department received a fire call at 139 Kenniebrew Drive on Saturday, August 27. The caller advised dispatch that a person was still inside the residence.

Officer Doug McDonald arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke. He also reportedly could hear the man yelling from inside.

Officer McDonald entered the apartment and found the man sitting in a chair. Firefighter Chris McDonald assisted Officer McDonald in attempting to pull Bray from the house. Bray was transported to the Red Boiling Springs football field where he was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center by Air Evac. He later died from the injuries he sustained.

Officer McDonald and Firefighter McDonald were treated at the scene. Later they were taken to Macon County General Hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation. The firefighter suffered minor burns on his fingers. Both were released later that same day.

At this time, officials are not releasing the cause of the fire.

Bray was born August 10, 1950, a son of the late Odell Bray and Maggie Brooks Bray. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a machine operator for Texas Boot until becoming disabled. He was married to Peggy Donoho Kemp who preceded him in death in 1999.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home. A complete obituary can be found on page 6C.
