romp over Mt. Juliet Christian in Season Opener

The Red Boiling Springs Junior High Bulldogs opened the season last week against the Saints of Mt. Juliet Christian. The Bulldogs came out fired up and immediately took the lead, as Lance Grooms took the opening kick off 70 yards for a touchdown to give RBS a 6-0 lead. Fullback Shelton Watson went in for the the two-point conversion to extend the Bulldog lead to 8-0. The Bulldogs stopped the Saints on their first offensive series and received a punt. From there the Bulldogs went back to work, as Lance Grooms once again found pay dirt. This time coming on a 20 yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead. The two-point conversion was no good. The game looked as if the Bulldogs were just going to blow the Saints out, but they didn't go down with out a fight. Mt. Juliet Christian took the ensuing kickoff and got a first down, before their tailback took the ball 60 yards for a score. The point after attempt failed and the Bulldogs went to halftime with a 14-6 lead. The Bulldogs came out for the second half and had to kickoff. The Saints must have thought they saw something in the Bulldog secondary they could take advantage of, as they came out passing. However, Grooms would put an end to the Saints passing attack, as he stepped in front of a misguided pass and returned it 40 yards for a Bulldogs touchdown. Grooms would get the ball again on the two point conversion and got into the end zone as the Bulldogs led 22-6. This would pretty well put the game away. Both teams would score touchdowns in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs quarterback Jake Stiles scored on a 12 yard run. Watson once again added the two-point conversion, as the Bulldogs led 30-6. The Saints took the kickoff back 60 yards for a score to pull within 16 at 30-14, but the Bulldogs would just run the clock out to end the game. Grooms led the Bulldogs on offense rushing 10 times for 111 yards and scoring three touchdowns on the day. Quarterback Jake Stiles was 2-5 passing for 27 yards, with both passes going to Juan Smith. Cameron McDonald and Logan Arms led the Bulldogs defense with 5 and 4 tackles respectively. This was Head Coach Chad Owens first career win and he too like Coach Roark of MCJH are both undefeated in their short careers. The Bulldogs will be in action again on Thursday, August 25th as they host Algood Middle School.
