Most high schools around the state compete in what is known as passing league during the summer to help get their team ready for the upcoming season. Passing League is basically a 7 on 7 touch football game, where you can only pass and there are no linemen. There are severaltournaments for local schools to compete in and normally the Tigers attend Vanderbilt and Tennessee Tech for some action. However, with the coaching change being made the Tigers were faced with very little time to get ready for the upcoming season, and most tournaments were already complete. Macon County did manage to get at least one game in before the pads went on, as they hosted the Clay County Bulldogs lastThursday. The Tigers looked a little bit rusty, but did manage to move the ball pretty good offensively. They just never really seemed to be able to punch it into the end zone when they got close. Clay County did a pretty good job overall, as they connected on a coupleof long touchdown passes and downed the Tigers by a score of 4 touchdowns to 1. But as we all know this was just a scrimmage with no pads, and that makes everything different. The Tigers were allowed to go out for the first practice in pads on Monday, and have only two and a half weeks before their first game. The Tigers will host Marshall County on Friday, this being a real scrimmage with pads! That will give us a littlemore insight on just how well we are going to do this season.
