Services were conducted by his pastor, Bishop Alvin Hitchcock, on Friday afternoon from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial following the 3:00 p.m. services was in the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
Born Paul Randle Holmes on December 12, 1944, he was one of thirteen children of the late William Jonah who died July 26, 1975 at the age of 69 and Ruby Estelle Sircy who died September 6, 1980 at the age of 68. A sister, Mazelle Albritton, preceded Paul in death as did a brother, J.P. Holmes. He was also preceded in death by an infant sibling.
Mr. Holmes was married November 15, 1970 to the former Nina Catherine (Cathy) Wise. Before being injured in a forty foot fall on November 11, 1967 in Wagner, Oklahoma, he was a construction worker. After becoming a paraplegic and being confined to a wheelchair, he was a watchmaker for the former Russell Jewelers in Lafayette.
Mr. Holmes was a member of the Carthage Church of God.
Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty-four years are five sisters, Frances Martin and husband Junior, Estelle Martin and husband Clarence all of McClures Bend, Beverly Denton and husband Neal of Rock City, Diane Smith and husband Jimmy "Smitty" of Rome, Mary Munsey and husband Carl of Carthage; four brothers, Carl Holmes and wife Brenda of Crossville, John Doyle Holmes of Mt. Juliet, W.J. Holmes and wife Alma of Gainesboro, Jimmy Holmes and wife Wanda of Hiawassie; five grandchildren.
