At least three different series of burglaries dating back to January 26, involving sports buildings at the Macon County High School, were solved last week by the Lafayette Police Department.

On May 19, a report was made by Officer Kevin Woodard that the Macon County High School baseball fieldhouse was broken into.

On May 25th it was discovered that sometime on May 24 and 25th the MCHS football fieldhouse and softball concession stand had been burglarized. A lot of vandalism was done and numerous items were taken from both the fieldhouses. Several footballs, shoes, socks, jerseys, football helmets and additional items were taken from the football field house. Taken from the baseball fieldhouse, earlier in the month, was a radar gun, shirts, cleats, gloves, and baseballs.

Since the first incident was reported in January, the LPD had stepped up patrol in the area and all officers were on the lookout for the perpetrators.

On May 26, the area of the baseball field was canvassed by Officer Jason Roberts, Officer Kevin Woodard, Lt. Bryon Satterfield, and Captain Phil Russell. During the search additional clues were obtained. Later that same afternoon, while on patrol Captain Russell found a baseball that was identified as the special type used by the MCHS baseball team. At that time, four suspects were established.

Lt. Satterfield, Officers Roberts and Woodard, and Captain Russell brought the four juveniles ranging in ages of 13-years-old to 17-years-old in for questioning.

During the course of the interviews, it was found that three of the juveniles had participated in the break-ins or thefts at the baseball field house and concession stand from May 19th through 26th. It was learned that a majority of the items stolen were being stored at one of the juvenile's homes.

At that time, Lt. Matt Looper, Officer Timothy Hackett, Officer Jeff Tucker, Officer Woodard, and Officer Roberts went to the juvenile's residence where a majority of the items were found.

Also during the interview, it was found that one of the suspects had knowledge of the softball concession stand burglary that occurred in January of this year.

All cases are still being investigated by the Lafayette Police Department. Charges are pending against three of the juveniles.

Lt. Satterfield said, "All shifts participated in the investigation and all officers helped to apprehend the juveniles. All the officers of the LPD did a fine job on this case and helped to put an end to these burglaries."
