When Smith returned home from work, she traveled to the farm and began questioning neighboring houses about the whereabouts of the animals.
She spoke with one man who stated that three men had woke him up that night and told him the horses were out and they wanted to know if they could put them up until someone could come and get them. The man reportedly told these men yes.
Smith then traveled down the road and spoke with a woman who lived at an address on New Harmony Road and she told Smith that a man and two boys stopped and asked if they could put the horses in her barn until they could get a trailer and come back in the morning to get them. The girl stated that they came back later with a Citizens Bank trailer and picked up the horses. Deputy Brewer contacted Citizens Bank and confirmed the name of the man who had rented the trailer.
Detectives wen to the address of the man who had rented the trailer and found the horses grazing in a field next man's house.
The horses, one Buckskin Mare, one Yearling Stud Colt, two gray Arabian Mares, one Chestnut Mare, one black and white spotted walking mare, one Palomino Saddle Filly, and one Yearling Stud Colt, were valued at $9000.
Charges are expected to stem from this investigation. The case is still under investigation by Detective Mark Gammons with the assistance of Deputy Brewer.
