The RBS Jr. Lady Bulldogs advanced to the championship round in the Cumberland Rim Conference Tournament held last week walloping Westmoreland 39-23.

The Jr. Lady Dogs led 9-5 after one quarter of play.

In the second, Jordan finds herself wide open to lay the ball in for 2. Jordan then steps up and sinks the ball for a 13-7 lead. Westmoreland turns the ball over helping RBS pad their score.

In third, Layce Colter lays the ball in for 2 only to be answered by Westmoreland dunking a 2 pointer. Skylar Aguilar lays in a 2 for a Bulldog lead of 20-10. The two teams go back and forth with both completing some sloppy plays to end the quarter with RBS still in the lead.

Coming into the fourth, RBS wants it in the can and turn on the heat. Colter hits two to begin pulling away from the Jr. Lady Eagles. With turnovers destroying the Lady Eagles chances of closing in on the Lady Bulldogs, reserves go in late in the game and the Lady Dogs advanced to the championship bracket to take on Jackson County.

Five Lady Dogs entered the scoring column as RBS wasted little time taking control of the contest. The Lady Dogs pounded the Lady Eagles 9-5 in the first quarter and never looked back. RBS headed to half-time ahead 16-8 and coasted the rest of the game.

Coach Larry White said he really wanted to take home a Highland Rim championship trophy. "We don't have a Highland Rim Championship and I sure would like to add it to our collection." However, White's plans didn't see completion when his Jr. Lady Bulldogs lost to Jackson County by a score of 44-24 on Saturday evening, January 22.

Not only did Jackson County win, but simply dominate the RBS club that had been on a roll coming in. The Lady Bulldogs, 12-8 had won nine of its last 10 games, including six in a row.

Leading 3-0 early in the game RBS wound up wilting before the Jackson County team who was led by Kayce Pharris, a 6' 7th grader. Laken Leonard fought for rebounds and drove the paint, but found herself blocked out each time and denied the score. The RBS ladies went into the 2nd quarter trailing 9-5.

In the second, the Lady Bulldogs still have trouble finding the basket as Leonard puts the ball up on a rebound and it won't go, then Aguilar's toss goes in and out resulting in Jackson County rebounding to score and draw a foul to convert for 2. Jackson County leads by 10 on a 15-2 run. The Lady Dogs go into full court pressure and Layce Colter goes to the charity stripe for her first point of the night. RBS goes into the half-time break down 23-9.

The Lady Bulldogs whittled the lead back a point on two occasions, but Jackson County hit the Lady Dogs with burst for a 39-17 lead at the end of the third.

Laken Leonard found herself in foul trouble with 4 fouls in the fourth, sending Pharris to the line to score her 35th point for the night. With 5:05 left to play, the starters are still in the game for both teams and the Jackson County ladies lead 41-17. Aguilar drives the hoop and scores for RBS before the subs come into the game. Paige Ferguson nets 2 in the final seconds for RBS and the buzzer sounds giving Jackson County the championship spot.
