The first quarter was total domination for the Tigerettes. In their first meeting, the Tigerettes was ice cold from the floor, but it did not take long for them to heat up. Though Westmoreland is known for their full court pressure and tough man to man defense, the Tigerettes shredded the Lady Eagles for 12 first quarter points. The Tigerettes also came out with some full court pressure of their own and a tough 2 - 3 zone to give the Lady Eagles all sorts of headaches. Kristan Wix was dominant early on scoring, rebound, and defensively as Wix led the team with 4 points of the Tigerettes 12 total to take the lead 12 - 5 at the end of the first quarter.
Though Westmoreland tried to mount offense in the second quarter, the Tigerettes kept rolling along with Holly Compton leading the team with 5 points in the quarter. Compton was vital in breaking the full court pressure and getting the Tigerettes into their offense against an always tough Westmoreland defense. With the defense still holding solid and the offense still holding its own, the Tigerettes held a 22 - 15 lead going into halftime.
The third quarter would be the turning point though in the game for the Westmoreland Lady Eagles. With Kristan Wix picking up her fourth foul with 5:07 left to go in the quarter, the Westmoreland offense started to find new life. With the lack of a defensive presence in the middle like Wix, the Lady Eagles were able to drive to the basket and were able to clean up on the glass clearly out rebounding the Tigerettes. Without Wix's offensive presence, the Tigerettes were not able to find any kind of flow on offense. With 3 minutes left to go in the quarter, Macon County Coach Gary Carter had seen his girls lose a sizeable lead and trail by 5 so he had Holly Compton pull the ball out and dribble at half court for the rest of the quarter so Westmoreland could not extend the lead any farther. This would pay off as Holly Compton ended up being fouled with just a few seconds to go in the quarter and she would hit both free throws to cut into the lead. At the end of an exciting three quarters of play, the Lady Eagles led 28 - 25.
With Wix staring the fourth quarter, the Tigerettes even after a horrible third quarter saw them down just 3 points. Macon though could not find the basket early on and Westmoreland offensively went right after Wix right away to pick up fifth foul. With the game still in hand Wix finally picked up her fifth foul with 4:52 to play on a questionable call and though the Tigerettes still had a few chances, they were not able to capitalize and Westmoreland was able to keep going at the interior of the Tigerettes defense. Despite a valiant effort by the Tigerettes, they would go on to fall to the Lady Eagles by a score of 42 -38 to finish second in the tournament. Leading the way for the Tigerettes was Holly Compton with 13 points. Tia Troutt had 8 points, Kristan Wix with 7 points, Katelyn Gregory with 5 points, Brandi Sircy with 3 and Chelsea Compton chipping in two points.
After the game, though somewhat let down, Tigerette Coach Gary Carter did have some positive things to say about his team. "We weren't able to do much in the second half with Kristan on the bench with foul trouble and when she was in there she couldn't do much because of her foul trouble." "We did play hard though and if we show the same kind of effort as we did tonight we are going to win several games this year." Making the all tournament team for the Tigerettes was Kristan Wix, Holly Compton, and Tia Troutt. With the loss, the Tigerettes go to 6 - 5 on the season while Westmoreland goes to 10 - 1. This week the Tigers and Tigerettes will be in action hosting a pair of district contests. On Tuesday night January the 4th as they host East Literature and Friday night the Tigers and Tigerettes will take on the Springfield Yellow Jackets.
