Lafayette Police Department Lt. Matt Looper was observing traffic on Highway 52 at the intersection of Highway 52 and Brattontown Circle when he reported that a red 4x4 pickup truck was driving errantly and making a loud noise with its tail pipes.

He reported that he then saw the truck drive off the shoulder of the roadway. He activated his blue lights and stopped the vehicle. Lt. Looper reported that he asked the driver, Chad Thomas Driver, 22, of Pumpkin Branch Road, if he had been drinking. Driver reportedly stated that he allegedly had seven beers at a friend's house.

Lt. Looper requested that he perform three sobriety tests. After Driver reportedly failed the tests, he was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence. Driver then consented to a breathalyzer test. His blood alcohol content was .08% according to Lt. Looper's report.

His court date was set for February 2, with a bond amount of $750.
