  • Young man injured in freak logging accident-Jay Hesson, age 20, was injured in a logging accident when he reportedly got in the way of a falling tree.

  • Former Chief Deputy Danny Fisher was named to the Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Cadet Class.

  • Westside School wing destroyed by fire-A metal building at Westide School was totally destroyed by fire. The fire is believed to have started early in the morning. Several classrooms had to be relocated due to the fire.

  • Three county schools burglarized-Three separate officers reported robberies at Lafayette Middle School, Central, and Red Boiling Springs.

  • Long time postal employee retirees-Doroty Doss, a 23 year employee of the Lafayette Post Officer retired January 30.

  • Trooper Donoho received recognition for service career-Vic Donoho, of Lafayette was presented a 15 year service recognition for his work with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

  • Sheriff's Dispatcher reports calls for rescue during last week's flood-Dispatcher Jean McGuffy was on duty fielding rescue calls during Thursday's flash floods. A women had to be rescued from home on Galen Road.

  • Tuck arrested for tobacco fraud by FBI-Chris Tuck, owner and operator of Tuck's Building Center, was arrested for tobacco fraud.

  • Trousdale man involved in first fatality of the year-David Allen Filson, age 46, of Hartsville was the first fatality of the year recorded for Macon County.

  • Lady Bulldogs eliminated in regional tournament-The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs saw their vision of staying in the State Tournament vanish Monday night, March 1.

  • Local deputy finds missing teens following Amber Alert-Two juveniles from Robertson County were located in Macon County by Sheriff's Deputy Troy Griggs.

  • Wilder's case set for September-A tentative trial date has been set for accused murderer Gerald Wilder for September.

  • Fatality on 231 claims the life of a Macon County man-Richard M. Strong, age 50, of Lafayette was killed in a fatal car accident on Highway 231 North.

  • Elderly man arrested for solicitation of murder-Two Macon County men remain in the Macon County Justice Center without bond after allegedly plotting to kill the ailing wife of one of the men. Ralph Coley and James Jenkins were arrested by TBI Agent Russ Winkler.

    Inmate escapes from county jail-Roy Roger Enoch, age 47, of Lebanon, slipped away from authorities while he was cleaning a courtroom at the Macon County Justice Center, Thursday, April 8.

    2004 Jett Williams County Music Festival May 7 and 8-Once again Macon County is honored to host the annual Jett Williams Festival.

    Tigerette fast pitch team sweeps double header-After dropping two games last week, the Tigerettes roar back by sweeping a double header from district four Martin Luther King High.

    Local couple critically injured in car crash-A Lafayette couple was seriously injured Sunday when the left side of their Dodge Dakota pickup was plowed into by an oncoming vehicle. George and Helen Duffer of Scottsville Road were injured.

    Money stolen from MCHS greenhouse-Approximately $1200 was stolen from the money raised at the greenhouse at Macon County High.

    Murder just across Macon County/Kentucky line-An Allen county resident, fifty-six-year-old Pamela Conway, was shot four times at point blank range with a handgun. Authorities say her son confessed to the murder.

    Arraignment for Morgan set for May 17 in Federal Court-Macon County Trustee, Donnie Morgan, is scheduled to be arraigned in Federal Court Monday, May 17, to answer to the charge of assault on a federal witness and to the charge of making false statements on his USDA issued tobacco card.

    Alleged FBI informant arrested for DUI after traffic stop-Macon County Sheriff's Department Captain Darrell Taylor arrested a local man last week who is said to be working for the FBI. Garth Middaugh, of Lafayette, was arrested by Captain Taylor after he allegedly ran a stop sign at the Long Creek Road.

    Trial date set in July for Morgan case-A trial date has been set in the case again Trustee, Donnie Morgan for July 13.

    Macon Bank & Trust recognizes recent graduate-Linda Spears Harper, EDP Officer at Macon Bank & Trust, recently graduated, magna cum laude, from Volunteer State Community College with an Associate of Science degree.

    Hiett named District Rotary President of the Year-Lafayette Rotary Club President, Brenda Hiett, was named District Rotary President of the Year on may 15.

    New Lafayette City Mayor sworn in-Bill Wells, Jerry Wix, Tim Morgan, and Loryn Atwell took office as the new mayor and council members of the City of Lafayette Tuesday, June 1.

    High speed police chase leads to death of 24 year old-Jeremy Ryan Marshall, 24, of Lafayette, was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday night after a single shot from Tennessee Highway Patrol sgt. William Avera.

    RBS man killed in motor vehicle accident-Billy Ray Gravins, of RBS, was killed last Thursday on US 231 South in Trousdale County in a motor vehicle accident.

    Councilman Bilbrey resigns his position with the RBS City Council-After serving 14 of the last 35 years either on the City Council or as Mayor of Red Boiling Springs, Councilman Ray Bilbrey had tendered his resignation.

    Child found wandering on Old Highway 52-A 13-month-old child was found wandering on Old Highway 52 West on Friday, June 25.

    Man injured after head on collision-Joseph M. Johnson, of Lafayette, was traveling east on State Rt. 52 and Adam Pratt was traveling west in a semi truck with reportedly Johnson fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicles hit head on.

    Boy bit by a copperhead recovering at home-Four year old Josiah Floyd is recovering at home after being bitten twice on his right foot while hiking with his parents on their property on Jennings Creek Road Sunday, July 4.

    Young girl killed in riding accident- Tabitha Nicole Knight, age 15, was killed in a horse riding accident Friday, July 16.

    Deadly spider bites local man-A brown recluse spider bit Charles Bogle, Jr., of Lafayette, while he was assembling a swing set for his children.

    Police chase leads through two counties-On Friday, July 23, RBS Police Officer Doug McDonald and Macon County Sheriff's Deputy Kimball Hall observed Lance Blackburn, who had outstanding warrants, drive past them. A chase ensued and led authorities into Jackson County.

    Former Macon Bank & Trust vice president passes away-J. Robert White, age 78, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, July 27, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin.

    Man dies after suffering severe burns-Troy Bryant Woodard, 25, of the Sunrise Community died Monday, August 9, in the burn unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

    Daneta Shoulders and Diana McClard crowned-Daneta Shoulders was crowned Mrs. Macon County and Diana McClard was crowned Ms. Senior Macon County at the 2004 Macon County Fair.

    Man dies after altercation last month- William Henry Perdue, age 86, of the Rocky Mound Community passed away Wednesday, August 11, from injuries he sustained in an alleged altercation with Floyd Anderson.

    Man killed after fall from bucket truck-James "Nany" Scruggs, age 43, of Lafayette, was killed instantly after he fell approximately 45 feet from a bucket truck last Tuesday while trimming trees in Lafayette.

    Morgan acquitted of all charges-Donnie Morgan, Macon County Trustee was acquitted in U.S. District Court in Nashville Tuesday, August 31, on charges of assaulting a federal witness and the charge of making false statements on his USDA issued tobacco card.

    2004 Junior High Homecoming Courts announced-2004 Macon County Junior High Homecoming Court was Kara Mowell, Candice Evetts, Brooke Bowers, Cassy Adcock as the Homecoming Queen, Kayla Lewis, Emily Sullivan, Kara Wix, Brooke Thompson, Kristen Gregory, Megan Warner, Loren Farley, Taylor Tuck, and Laci Bente.     Avera will not face charges in shooting-Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. William Avera will not face charges for a deadly shooting that happened in June of this year.

    Wilder pleads guilty to 2nd degree murder-Gerald Ronald Wilder entered a plea of guilt to second degree murder Thursday, September 9, in the stabbing death of his wife.

    County wide drug round up produces two meth labs-Two meth labs were found Thursday, Sept. 16, by members of the Macon County Sheriff's Department, TBI, DEA, and the HITDA task force.

    Computer taken as part of police investigation-A computer and computer equipment belonging to the RBS office of the Macon County Chronicle and used by co-editor Ed Cahill was seized after authorities received information that he was using the computer to search for child pornography.

    October

    Coley case retired in criminal court-Ralph Coley appeared in criminal Monday, October 4, for charges of solicitation to commit 1st degree murder against his wife. Coley was sent to a long term mental health facility.

    Woman posing as doctor arrested-The Lafayette Police Department Shelly L. Evans on October 8, for posing as a doctor and attempting to fill a prescription.

    Red Ribbon Week was held October 22-29- June Spears, Coordinated School Health Director, announced Red Ribbon Week.

    Armed robbery occurs at OK Market-At approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday morning an armed robbery occurred at OK Market on Highway 52 West.

    Couple arrested on allegations of child abuse-Michael Dean Myers and his wife Angela Marie Myers were arrested Saturday after three young girls alleged that the husband had been sexually fondling the girls.

    November

    Man caught in OK Market armed robbery-Timothy Neal Gregory, 35, of Siloam Church Rod, has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of OK Market in Macon County and the Mapco in Sumner County.

    Drug sweep at high schools nets marijuana-Members of the 15th Judicial Task Force, K-9 Officers, the Lafayette Police, and a K-9 Officer from Trousdale County executed a drug sweep at Red Boiling Springs High School and Macon County High School Wednesday, Nov. 3. Drugs were found.

    Thirty-five-year-old killed in one vehicle accident-Andral Lewis Ward, age 35, was pronounced dead on arrival at Macon County General Hospital after he lost control of his 1984 Pontiac Saturday, Nov. 13.

    Seven juveniles to be charged after authorities raid local high school-On Friday, Nov. 19, members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and their K-9's, and Macon County Sheriff's Department searched Macon County High and seven juveniles were charged.

    December

    Macon man charged after allegedly striking a juvenile-Shannon Lavoy Walters, 26, of Old Lake Road was arrested after allegedly striking a juvenile and another man at the residence with a flashlight.

    Two vehicles stolen; one recovered in Allen County-Two vehicles were reported stolen to the Macon County Sheriff's Department. Olene Wix, of Annie Hollow Road, reported a stolen vehicle. Cortez Adams reported the second.

    Meth lab explodes on Brandi Lane-The Lafayette Fire Department responded to a trailer fire on Dec. 11. The fire was believed to have stemmed from a meth lab. Two were questioned in the incident. This case will be presented to the grand jury.

    Macon Man dies in hit and run accident-Timothy Michael Patrie, age 22, was pronounced dead at TCMC after his vehicle collided with a semi truck. The driver of the semi truck is wanted for questioning in the accident. The driver reportedly left the scene.

    Macon County High School graduate dies in war in Iraq-Memorial services were held for LCpl Joshua Wayne Dickinson, Tuesday, December 21, in Gallatin.
