Dennis Fay Cherry, age 56, was arrested by Macon County Deputy Troy Griggs on Saturday, November 27, for public intoxication and later charged with identity theft. According to Detective Jimmy Hardin, Sunday morning Deputy Griggs contacted Detective Hardin and stated that Cherry had in his possession a Tennessee driver's license with a photo of Cherry but the name of Michael Leroy Coons on the license.
Detective Hardin and Deputy Griggs interviewed Cherry and learned that Coons had deceased. Cherry had in his possession Coons' license. Cherry had taken the license to Nashville and had them renewed with his picture. He did receive a valid license from the state of Tennessee.
Due to the statement taken from Cherry, he was charged with identity theft and forgery. Bond was not listed. His court date has been set for December 8.
