On Saturday, November 20, Lafayette Police Sgt. Ray Amalfitano was investigating a vandalism at the Smokeshop on the Scottsville Road. At the same time he observed several juveniles running into 708 Scottsville Road. Sgt. Amalfitano left the Smokeshop and went to the above address. He was met at the door of the home by Timothy Lee Potts, Jr., of the same address. While speaking to Potts, he observed two males run from the house and onto Bratton Ave. Lt. Looper, Officer Jeff Tucker, and Sgt. Amalfitano attempted to apprehend the two juveniles.

Sgt. Amalfitano then returned to the house where he smelled a strong odor of what he believed to be marijuana. He also smelled marijuana on Potts.

At that time, Potts allegedly admitted that he had smoked marijuana and that there was some marijuana in the house. He then gave written permission for the officers to search the house.

A search of the house found a clear bag of green substance believed to be marijuana. Potts reportedly confirmed that it was marijuana to the officers. Also found was a small amount of marijuana, six bags used to smoke marijuana, approximately 20 small bags used to store marijuana. Approximately $2000 in cash was found in various locations in the house. Timothy Lee Potts, 24, and Nicholas Patrick Potts, 18, were arrested and charged. Timothy Potts was charged with possession of schedule VI for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Nicholas Potts was charged with simple possession of schedule VI and underage consumption. Both are scheduled to be in court on December 15.
