On October 29, Lafayette Police Officer Jason Roberts was dispatched to 159 Brattontown Circle to speak with Aliene Jones of the above address on a report of an attempted break in.

Upon arrival, Officer Roberts spoke to Jones and she stated that her door had some damage around the lock area as if someone had attempted to force their way in the home. Jones stated that she had a new door installed two weeks prior to this incident.

According to her, she left her home at approximately 9:45 a.m. and when she returned home at 1:30 p.m. Donnie Sexton, the man who mows her lawn, brought to her attention that her door appeared to be open a little. Jones stated that she had shut it. Upon further examination she found that the door was latched but had a big gap at the top where it met the frame.

Reportedly, someone had used a tool to engage the lock mechanism between the door and the frame to gain access into the residence. Their attempts failed. It then appears that person or persons used force to push open the door. Access was not made and nothing was reported missing.

If you have any information on this attempted burglary contact the LPD at 666-4725.
