A meeting of the RBS City Council was held on Thursday, October 14th at City Hall in Red Boiling Springs. CDBG Administrator Fay Leonard was present to encourage the Council to apply for Community Development Block Grants. Marvin Smith, from the Wastewater Treatment plant gave the Council a status report on Sabins Spring and the new filtration system, which, he said,is in the process of being installed. He also said the plan for discharging waste water daily instead of as needed currently is in effect.
Representing City Engineers Barnes/Waggoner/Sumner/Cannon, Art Montgomery reported on water loss for the month, citing a lower than average 18% as an achievement. The yearly percentage, according to the BWSC was 42.9%, with water loss averaging between 24% and 40 % in preceding months.
The Council made plans to set a Public Hearing date for the petition from John and Jackie Cook to have a part of their residential property annexed to the City of Red Boiling Springs. Councilman Shirley Russell questioned why a portion and not the whole property was being considered. He asked the Council to check the legal guidelines for annexation of the Cook property prior to calling a Public Hearing.
The Council accepted Dale Cherry's bid of $300. to repair the vandalism damages to Whitley Cemetery.
The Council approved RBS Police Chief Terry Tuck's request to purchase two police cars from the Lafayette Police Department for $3,200 each.
Councilman Roark reminded the Council that the city needed to purchase a new fire engine.
Mayor Randall Gregory appointed Councilman Shirley Russell to be in charge of the Christmas Parade.
