Jesse Gentry, a deputy with the Macon County Sheriff's Department, responded to a call on Maple Lane on October 2, after the sheriff's department received information that two children were reportedly at home alone.

He reportedly arrived at the home to find two female juveniles, age 15 and 12, home alone. The mother of the girls, Claudia Jones, had reportedly left the females home alone while she went to Alabama to work. The oldest child stated the mother had left home Thursday. She had reportedly left them food but no money.

The mother has two younger children that were left in the custody of the grandmother in Portland.

Deputy Gentry spoke to the grandmother in Portland. She agreed to take custody of the two oldest children until the situation can be resolved. The case is now being investigated by the Department of Children's Service.
