Officer Tillman located the man in a ditch and asked him what was he doing. The man, later identified as Charlie R. Likens of College Street, stated that he was trying to collect his beer from the side of the road. Officer Tillman then asked Likens to come to a standing position and he refused. He proceeded to asked him twice before helping him to his feet.
At that time, Likens reportedly screamed several obscene words at Officer Tillman. Likens was then placed in the patrol car. While on the way to the Macon County Jail, it was reported that Likens made several rude remarks and allegedly threatened to break Officer Tillman's jaw.
Officer Tillman arrived at the jail and was attempting to remove Likens from the patrol car when Likens allegedly tried to stab Officer Tillman with an ink pen.
Officer Tillman raised his arm to defend him-self. At that time the ink pen stabbed into the officer's arm.
The situation was quickly resolved and Likens was taken into the booking area and charged with aggravated assault on an officer and public intoxication. Bond was set at $2750 and his court date is set for October 6.
