"I am not going to be a candidate for this office in two years. I have nothing against anyone, I'm just not going to run in 2006. He stated that he would do everything he could to better the county in the next two years, but after that it was going to be up to someone else.
Also at the meeting, Beer Board Chairman Billy Bransford, informed the commissioners that the owner of OK Market, located in the western part of the county, had successfully completed his application to receive a beer license and had been approved at the meeting.
The motion to approve the county budget was approved by commissioners. Mayor Donoho stated that the county had approximately $263,000 in the county general fund. He stated that this was not enough money for the county to operate on in the month of October. Donoho said, "When the checks start bouncing they come and see me, not you. Without a proper tax rate we can not operate."
In new business, Commissioner Scott Gammons made a motion to reinstate Commissioner Jerry Ray to the highway department committee. This motion failed. All other committees were approved.
An audience member from Rock Crusher Road stated that he would like the speed limit lowered on his road. He stated that he had several children and grandchildren playing in his yard during the day and drivers are driving to fast on the road. He stated that he has placed signs up that warn drivers of children playing but this has not stopped them from driving too fast. He asked the commissioners to lower the speed limit to 30 mph on from Carter Branch Road to Highway 10 on Rock Crusher Road. Sheriff Joe Ferguson stated that he would send his deputies to patrol the area more and Mayor Donoho stated he would contact THP and also have them patrol the road.
The State of Tennessee Department of Transportation is ready to begin the work on the Trammell Creek bridge. They will begin construction when they receive the $55,000 the county is responsible for. A motion was made by Commissioner Scott Gammons to borrow the money to build the bridge and then pay the money back out of debt service. Commissioners moved to do so.
In other business:
Commissioners elected Notary Publics including Beverly Birdwell, Carrie Griffin, Pat Drive, Margaret Byrant, Ricky Shoulders, and Joe Roberts. One nomination from the floor of Greg Cline was also approved.
The next meeting of the committee as a whole is scheduled for Monday, October 4, at 7 p.m.
