Joe Swaffer, 66, of Lafayette, TN, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Smith County, Tennessee native was born Wednesday, April 27, 1938, a son of the late Sidney Larkin Swaffer and Staley D. Marks Swaffer. He was owner of Swaffer Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, and a member of Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith Swaffer; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Debbie Swaffer; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Dawn "Sissy" and Keith Scruggs; and Kendra Johnson, all of Lafayette, TN; 2 sisters, Polly Merryman and Joyce Beasley; a brother, Bobby Swaffer, all of Hartsville, TN; his father-in-law, Carlos Smith, Lafayette, TN; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Swaffer, a sister, Betty Rogers, his mother-in-law, Ethel Holliman Smith, and a son-in-law, Anthony Johnson.

Funeral services for Joe Swaffer were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Rev. Robbie Williams officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Jackie McClard, Jerry Wilmore, Hilos Walrond, Bill Meador, James (Cateye) Carman, and Donald Meador. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Walrond, Bill Speck, and Harold Sanders.
