Sgt. Hudgens arrived at the gas station only to find that Ivey had left the premises. A witness stated a tag number to Sgt. Hudgens and a description of the vehicle. He then received information of an address for Ivey.
Deputy Jesse Gentry contacted Sgt. Hudgens and stated he would go to the address and try to locate a vehicle matching that description. As Deputy Gentry turned onto Tanyard Road, he observed a vehicle matching that description traveling on the road. He activated his blue lights and the vehicle pulled over. At that time, a man later identified as Gerald Wilson Ivey, exited the vehicle and made his way to the rear of the vehicle. Deputy Gentry called for Ivey to turn around and place his hands on the tailgate of the truck. Instead of obeying, Ivey made a run for it. After a short foot pursuit, Deputy Gentry tackled Ivey. Ivey resisted arrest and slipped away from Gentry and ran off again, tripping over a piece of lumber and falling to the ground.
At that time, Deputy Gentry called for back up but was able to apprehend Ivey and subdue him enough to place him in the back of the patrol car.
A passenger, Patience Wible, began screaming and yelling at Deputy Gentry as he cuffed and placed Ivey in the patrol car.
Sgt. Bennie Hudgens arrived on the scene and placed Wible in the back of his patrol car because of her irate actions.
Macon County Sheriff Joe Ferguson and Deputy Michael Veatch arrived on the scene and the officers then searched the vehicle. Found in the vehicle were a club and several opened beer bottles with beer still inside. A search of Wible's purse revealed several marijuana pipes and a prescription bottle with unknown pills inside.
Ivey was charged with two counts of failure to appear, financial responsibility, violation of light law, violation of registration law, evading arrest, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon, and violation of open container. No report of charges on Wible and another passenger, Chris Stafford, were available. Ivey is to appear in General Sessions court September 25, at 9 a.m. He is being held without bond.
