Funeral services for James Slate, age 76, of 110 Oak Grove, Red Boiling Springs, TN., were conducted Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Elder Joey Hackett officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Jeff Ford, Randel Gregory, Russ Hudson, Prentice Hudson, Fay Etheridge, Garry Kirby, Tim Roark, and Robert Knight. Active Pallbearers were Justin Slate, Brandon Hudson, Dusty Slate, Chandler Slate, Chris Slate, Kevin Slate, Anthony Knight, and Roger Knight. Interment followed in the Whitley Cemetery.

James passed away Monday evening, July 12, 2004 at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville, KY.

A native of Macon County, TN., he was the son of the late Dewey and Edith Lyons Slate. On September 28, 1945, he was married to the former Jacquelyn Knight, who survives. He was preceded in death by an infant son. He was an electrician, member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, served on the Red Boiling Springs City Council 1975 - 1977, Red Boiling Springs Water Commissioner 1977 - 1989 and Red Boiling Springs Mayor 1993 - 1995.

Survivors besides his wife of 58 years include: daughter & son-in-law, Kathy & Lanny Hudson, Lafayette, TN; sons & daughters-in-law, Richard & Debbie Slate, Nashville, TN and David & Margie Slate, Bowling Green, KY; sisters, Naomi Ford, Raleigh, NC and Emodene Slate, Franklin, TN; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
