A two vehicle accident seriously injured one Wednesday, June 30, on Highway 52 at 4:17 p.m.

Joseph M. Johnson, of Lafayette, was traveling east on State Rt. 52 in a 2000 Saturn. Adam S. Pratt was traveling west on State Rt. 52 in a 2001 International Semi, red in color.

According to a report from THP Trooper Danny Fisher, Johnson reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line. He struck the semi truck head on. Johnson was airlifted from the scene by Air Evac and was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center with serious injuries.

Macon County Sheriff's Captain Darrell Taylor, Detective Mark Gammons, Deputies Tammy Wright, Terry Atkins, Mark Bartley, and Danny Crawford assisted with the accident.

Pratt suffered no injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. No charges were filed against either driver.

According to Johnson's grandmother, Joanna Roark, he is slowly improving. Joseph remains at Vanderbilt and has already undergone one surgery on his ankle and is expected to have one on his hip later this week. The wreck also damaged one of his kidneys and broke several of his ribs.

Roark said, "He really appreciates all the card and phone calls from everyone."
