Macon County Sheriff's Deputy Larry West reported that he was dispatched to Old Highway 52 West after Westmoreland Police Department and the Lafayette Police Department both received a 911 call about a small child being in the roadway.
After arriving at the scene, Deputy West spoke to William Robey and Donna Warner who made the 911 call to the LPD. They advised that they were traveling down the road when they saw a small child almost get struck by a vehicle. They advised that the child was alone and had no supervision. The vehicle that almost stuck the child stopped and was at the scene.
At that time, reportedly the grandmother of the child, Susan Fairman returned to the home where the child was staying and saw the child and the vehicles down the road and went to the scene and located the child. She then returned to the residence of 10870 Old Highway 52 West.
Deputy West spoke with all parties including the father of the child, Jeremy Fairman. DCS was notified of the situation and DCS along with MCSD Detective Jim Hardin arrived at the home.
A meeting between the child's father, DCS, and Detective Hardin determined that the case needed further investigation. A meeting was scheduled to take place on June 25, at 1 p.m. between DCS, the MCSD and Jeremy Fairman and his wife.
At press time information was unavailable as to how DCS handled the case.
