The theft allegedly occurred over several months and was first reported on January 31, 2004, by Lafayette Police Officer Keith Tillman.
Officer Tillman reported that the owner of Bransford's, Phillip Bransford, stated that while going over bank statements he found several thousands of dollars missing from his business account.
At that time, the case was turned over to investigating officer Lt. Bryan Satterfield. Bransford was instructed to gather all bank statements, including credit card statements and turn them over to Lt. Satterfield by February 2.
After a lengthy investigation, it was found that Robin Stinson, the secretary in charge of the financial accounts, had obtained approximately $39,000 in cash, merchandise, and fraudulent use of a company credit card.
The investigation also determined that Misty Goolsby, 27, of Brandy Lane, a friend of Stinson, did benefit from the goods obtained illegally.
The information was presented to the grand jury June 7, and Stinson was charged with theft over $10,000. Goolsby was charged with theft over $500.
Lt. Satterfield said, "This is an embezzlement case, plain and simple." Both women were arrested Wednesday night, June 9.
Stinson's bond was set at $10,000 and she been released from jail. Her court date has been set for the October session of Criminal Court.
Goolsby's court date has been set for the October session of Criminal Court. She has been released on $1000 bond.
Phillip Bransford would not comment the case.
